A Dhaka court on Monday placed Masum Mohammad Akash, the suspected shooter of Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afrin Prity, on a seven-day remand.
After the hearing, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order.
Earlier on the same day, the investigating officer of the case Md Yasin Sikder, an official of Detective Branch (DB) of police, produced Akash before the court and pleaded to place him on 15-day remand.
A team of DB Motijheel Division in association with Bogura police arrested Akash in connection with the Awami League leader Tipu murder on Sunday. Akash was also wanted in four other cases.
Tipu, former general secretary of Motijheel Thana Unit of Awami League, was shot dead in a violent gun attack at Amtala in Shahjahanpur of the capital on the night of March 24.
The college student Samiya Afran Jamal Prity was also hit by a bullet and died in the incident. She was shot when she was passing by the area in a rickshaw. Monir Hossain Munna, driver of Tipu’s car, also sustained bullet injuries.
Farhana Islam Dolly, wife of Tipu, filed a murder case with Shahjahanpur Police Station on March 25.
