The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has taken a massive programme for boosting the cultivation of Boro paddy at six upazilas in the district this season.
The DAE has fixed a total of 55,215 hectares of land for cultivating Boro in the district this season.
Of the total lands 54,200 hectares of land would be brought under high yielding variety (HYV) and 1,015 hectares under local variety. Deputy Director of DAE Mohammad Saidur Rahman said farmers of the district are now busy preparing seed beds and also preparing their lands for transplanting the seedlings. There is no shortage of Boro seedlings in the district, he said.
Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC)) so far distributed 1,250 tonnes Boro seeds among the farmers in the district. The cultivation would be continued till the 2nd week of February, he added.
The DD said if there is no climate hazard about 234,850 tonnes of Boro paddy would be produced in the district this season.
