A much talked marriage was held in the court of Jhenidah district and sessions judge on Thursday noon. Judge of the court Abu Hasan Habib granted conditional bail prayer of the rapist when he had agreed to marry the rape victim about 13 months back.
The marriage documents (kabinnama) was signed for an amount of Taka three lakh. The relatives of the accused and victim including lawyers of both sides were present during the time, said accused partaay’s lawyer Aminur Islam Nurul.
He said that Nazmul Hossain, son of Jahid Biswas of Kanchannagarpara in Jhenaidah town, had made illicit love affairs with Sumaiya Khatun of the town assuring her of marriage. Nazmul Hossain was in the custody for last 13 months. When his lawyer had submitted bail prayer for him, the Judge had imposed conditional bail prayer for marry the victim.
Later, both the sides agreed upon the matter and the marriage was held in the court with the marriage registrar and Qazi Mufti Arif Billah for an amount of Taka three as kabinnama. Each and everybody present there were entertained with sweetmeats. Later the newly married bridegroom was sent to his father in law’s house as a social costume.
Mention may be made here that it was the first ever incident of marriage in the court in Jhenaidah following rape incident, said public prosecutor (PP) Advocate Ismail Hossain.
