Mango harvest in Rajshahi to begin May 15

The plucking, preservation and marketing of the local variety of Guti (Seed) mango will start on May 15 in Rajshahi. 

The decision was taken at a views-exchange meeting on 'Collection, Marketing and Transportation of Mangoes' was held among the Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi and the people concerned at the conference room of DC on Sunday. 

Shamim Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi, presided over the meeting. Shamim Ahmed said stern action will be taken against those marketing the mango before May 15. 

The meeting was arranged in coordination with the Department of Agricultural Extension to ensure that no one can sell immature, chemical-laced, adulterated mango.

Deputy Commissioner further said that the local variety of Guti mangoes may be plucked and marketed from May 15. The other verities of the mango such as Gopalbhog, Rani Pasand, Laxman Bhog and Khirsapat also known as Himsagar may be plucked from May 25 to 30. However, Langra variety of mango will be plucked from June 10. Amrapali and Fazli verities of mango will be marketed from June 15. The late variety of mango, Ashina, will be in market from July 10. BARI-4 variety of mango will be available from July 5. Gourmoti variety of Mango from July 15 and Elamoti variety of mango may be plucked and marketed from August 20. 

Moreover, Katimon and BARI varieties of mangoes may be plucked and marketed round the year.

Sabina Yeasmin, Additional Deputy Commissioner of RMP, Umme Salma, Training Officer of DAE, Rajshahi, AKM Nur Hossain Nirjhor, UNO, Puthia, Avijit Sarker, Assistant Commissioner and Dr Toshiqul Islam Raja, General Secretary of Rajshahi Association, local mango traders and the mango orchard owners were also present at the meeting.
