Mango fair begins in Naogaon

A three-day-long mango fair has started in Naogaon with the initiative of Naogaon Department of Agricul­tural Extension on Wednesday. The fair was arranged on the premises of Naogaon Sadar Upazila Parishad.

Deputy Commissioner Golam Maola inaugurated the mango fair as the chief guest. Later, a discussion was held at the Sadar Upazila auditorium. It was presided over by Deputy Director of Naogaon Department of Agricultural Extension Abul Kalam Azad. 

Deputy Commissioner Golam Maola, District Training Officer of Naogaon Department of Agricultural Extension AKM Manzure Maola, Vice-Chairman Rezaul Karim, President of District Press Club Abu Bakkar Siddique, mango farmer Sohel Rana and others spoke at the programme. Officers of various levels at Department of Agricultural Extension and farmers also attended the discussion.

Twenty stalls were set up in the fair. Mangoes of 140 varieties, including Amrapali, Langra, Nak Fazli, Miyazaki, Kiuzai, Banana Mango, Chaunsa, Ashwina, Mallika, Gourmoti, were exhibited in the fair. Mangoes were decorated in the shape of famous Paharpur Buddhist Monastery in the middle of the fair for exhibition. 

Moreover, female entrepreneurs made jam and jellies from mango and displayed them in the fair. There are stalls of handicrafts and traditional cakes as well.
