The elder brother, while undergoing treatment at Dhaka medical college hospital died on Thursday night at the hospital. The deceased was identified as Shahabuddin, 32,of Bujidanga-Mundia in Kaliganj upazila in Jhenidah.
The police has already arrested the main accused Shukur Ali in the case when the wife of the deceased had filed case with same police station. Locals and police said Sharmin, the younger daughter of Shahabuddin was playing near the pumpkin plot owned by Shahabuddin’s younger brother Shukur Ali on November 23 last year. Some other children had picked up a piece of pumpkin from the plot.
As Shahabuddin had protested the matter, younger brother Shukur Ali attacked him with a botee, a sharp weapon used for fish and vegetables cutting. He sustained severe injuries and rushed to Jashsore medical college hospital. But the attending physicians referred him to Dhaka medical college hospital in a critical state. Shahabuddin succumbs to his injuries on Thursday night.
Shahabuddin’s wife Raushan Ara said she filed a case against Shukur Ali and Parul Khatun with Kaliganj police station on December 18. Shukur Ali was arrested for his alleged involvement in the attack on the elder brother. Raushan Ara said Shukur Ali has been threatening her to withdraw the case. As Shahabuddin had died in Dhaka, she has been feeling insecure with her two minor daughters at home.
Kaliganj police station Officer-in-Charge Mahfuzur Rahman said he was informed about the death of Shahabuddin at DMCH. The police could take necessary legal steps following the murder when the death certificate was available.
