Man killed in ‘gunfight’ in Jashore

A man was killed in a gunfight in Keshabpur upazila of Jashore district on Monday.
The incident took place around 5 am on Monday near Dormutia brick kiln in Keshabpur upazila.
The deceased was identified as Moniruzaman, 30, son of late Jamal Uddin of Dormutia village in Keshabpur upazila.
Police said that there were 15 cases against him including murder in different police stations of the district.
Moniruzzaman's cousin Aksad Ali said that he had heard the gunshots near the brick field in the early morning. Then he went there and found the body of the deceased. Family members, including Monir, do not understand how he was killed.
Keshabpur Police Station OC Jasim Uddin said that police went to Dormutia village on Monday night after receiving news of a gunfight between two groups of drug peddlers.
Sensing the presence of the police, the drug dealers fled. At that time, a young man was found lying near the brick field of Dormutia village. Police rescued him and took him to Keshabpur Upazila Health Complex where an emergency doctor declared him dead.
A case has been registered with the police station.
