A man was killed by his younger brother in a dispute over hilly land in Maheshkhali upazila of Cox's Bazar on Tuesday night. The incident took place at Septipara Battali village in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Salim Ullah, 45, son of Golal Ahmed of the village. Police has recovered the body of the deceased.
Maheshkhali Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Babul Azad said the killing took place in a dispute over the surrounding hilly land.
He said there was a long-running dispute between the two brothers Salim Ullah and Nasr Ullah over hilly land in the Choto Maheshkhali union under Maheshkhali upazila.
The brothers had a quarrel over the issue of firming beetle leaf on the hilly land and Nasr Ullah beat his elder brother Salim Ullah to death in front of the locals in the local Pukurpar area at the time.
Upon receiving the news, police recovered the body and brought it to the police station. Police have arrested a person for questioning in the incident.
