Man dies from snakebite in Santhia

A sexagenarian person died after being beaten by a venomous snake at Shamukjani village under Koromja union in Santhia Upazila of Pabna on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Jahed Ali Kha, 65, son of Abed Ali Kha, resident of the village.

He died on the way to the hospital on early Thursday.

Family sources of the deceased said a snake bit on the hand of Jahed Ali Kha at 8:00pm on Wednesday when he was catching fish with a net. His family members took him to a local Kobiraj, Bellal. Later, he felt sick again at around 11:00pm. Then, they took him to another Kobiraj who denied to treat him. Jahed Ali was taken to Bera hospital where he was advised to be taken to Pabna General Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injury on the way to the hospital. His relatives caught the snake.

Wildlife Inspector of Rajshahi Divisional Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department Md Jahangir Kabir identified the snake as Kalash snake. He said Kalash snake is highly venomous. He advised everyone to take the person to hospital immediately after bitten by this snake.

Koromja Union Parsihad Chairman Hossain Ali Bagchi confirmed the matter and said I heard that Jahed Ali Kha of Shamukjani village was bitten by a snake and died.
