A person committed suicide by hanging himself from a Sojne tree at Jhautola village under Nehalpur Union in Manirampur Upazila of Jashore on Thursday. After a failed attempt to kill his fourth wife with a sharp weapon due to a family dispute, he hanged himself.
The deceased was identified as Uzir Ali, a van driver, resident of Balidha village.
Locals said Uzir Ali had three more wives and his fourth wife was Rozina Khan. He lived with his disabled son in a rented house at Jhautola village under Nehalpur Union. But his other wives never came here, they said.
Officer-in-Charge of Manirampur Police Station ABM Mehedi Masud said following a family dispute, Uzir Ali hit his wife Rozina khatun in her throat with a sharp knife with murder in his mind around 2 am. But their son started shouting at that time and the neighbours came forward, forcing Uzir Ali to escape the scene.
Later, the locals rescued Rozina and admitted her to Manirampur Upazila Health Complex. As her condition was critical, doctors shifted her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
The OC also said the locals saw Uzir Ali’s body hanging from a tree near the house and informed the police on Thursday around 8:30 am.
Police rescued the body and sent it to Jashore General Hospital for post-mortem. Legal procedure is underway regarding this incident.
