Man buried inside house as graveyard inundated

Finding no dry place outside or inside the graveyard, a son at Berabari village under Boro Bihanli union of Bagmara upazila buried his father under the floor of drawing-room of his house. 

Abul Hossain Bagati (50) of the village informed, his ailing father Abu Taher (87) died on Monday night. All the relatives and villagers found it difficult to find out any dry land around the village or even at the local graveyard to bury his father. 

The graveyard was inundated by floodwater.

As a result, he was forced to bury his father by digging a grave on the floor of the drawing-room of his house. He further mentioned, now the flood situation of the upazila has taken so serious turn that in case of death of any person, there is no way to bury the corpse but to float that on a raft.

Abul Hossain further informed like other surrounding villages, more than 300 residents of Berabari village remained trapped in floodwater for last one week. The entire village people were spending their days with utter misery with their domestic  animals and goods of the houses.  

Some of the flood-hit people were selling their cattle heads at a throwaway price. Some affected people have taken shelter on the local embankment, at the local Primary School and even on the roofs of the houses. No relief goods reached to the flood-affected people of the village till Monday.  

Akhijan Begum (28) informed, her house has been inundated in water. There was no place for cooking and walking around. As a result, she with the minor child were spending the night and the day on the cot somehow. 

KanchonKumar, a local bank official informed, the residents of the village are living an inhuman life by being trapped in flood for last one week. the road and crop field of the village has been inundated and water has entered in most of the houses of the village. 

Mahmudur Rahman, Chairman of Borobihanli Union informed, so far no relief material is available for the affected people. However, he said, Upazila administration has asked him to prepare a list of the affected people of the village. 

Sharif Ahmed, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Bagmara informed, the local chairman has been asked to prepare list of the affected people and relief goods have been sent from the upazila administration to some other flood-affected villages.
