The Detective Branch of Barishal Metropolitan Police arrested a member of a fraudulent ring that cheated people with fake gold bars, counterfeit magnetic pillars, and coins in Nathullabad Bus Terminal area early Wednesday.
The arrested was Jasim Howladar, 32. The DB also seized six fake gold bars, 12 brass bars (cut pieces of brass spoon), and fake gold-making equipment. However, five other members of the ring managed to flee.
The arrested was sent to Barishal jail on Wednesday afternoon, and police are trying to arrest his fugitive associates, said DB police assistant commissioner Tota Mia. Tota Mia said that the gang cheated people, coming from village. Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB led by sub-inspector Fakhruddin along with ASI Jamal Hossain conducted a raid in Kauniya first lane area on Tuesday night. Later, the SI lodged a case with the Kauniya police station in Barishal Metropolitan Police against the six, including the arrested.
