Maldives, a small archipelagic country in South Asia, has always billed itself as a top tourist destination.

Dotted with island resorts and endowed with white sandy beaches and turquoise seas, Maldives, officially the Republic of Maldives, is situated in the Arabian Sea of the Indian Ocean.

Its Islands are a series of coral atolls built up from the crowns of a submerged ancient volcanic mountain range.

The country is irresistible with its white beaches, turquoise sea, blue lagoons, colourful marine life and many palm trees.

With a temperature of around 30C all days of the year, the Maldives is a dream come true at any time.

The idyllic archipelago in the Indian Ocean has become a prime luxury holiday destination, particularly popular among the wealthy.

Annually, more than 1.5 million tourists visit the Maldives.

Its more than 130 resort islands include high-end hotel brands, and its marine geography offers unique diving and water sports opportunities as well as undersea accommodations, restaurants, and spas.

The tropical nation with a population of 400,000 is heavily dependent on tourism for its foreign exchange earnings.

Tourism, directly and indirectly, accounts for nearly two-thirds of the country's gross domestic product (GDP), according to the World Bank.

The industry also employs the single largest proportion of the Maldivian workforce.

Tasty cuisine, extremely friendly staff everywhere, and tons of relaxation opportunities makes this country worth visiting at least once in a lifetime.

Amongst the many beautiful destinations to visit in the world, Maldives has an unrivalled luxurious aura that keeps on attracting those seeking solace and tranquility, and of course, a lot of romance as well.

Ever since Maldives was discovered, it has been an obvious choice to visit to have the best beach holiday ever!

Maldives is a place that would make you feel quiescent, where you can simply gaze at its white-sand beaches, crystalline lagoons and azure water.

Tourism is the largest economic industry in the Maldives, as it plays an important role in earning foreign exchange revenues and employing many people in the tertiary sector of the country.

The archipelago of the Maldives is the main source of attraction to many tourists visiting the island country.

The ministry of tourism envisions to become a benchmark for sustainable tourism development - a nation with an economically profitable tourism industry in harmony with its natural environment, cultural resources, and the values of its people.

Maldives always promote and set the best example of sustainable tourism development – a nation with an economically profitable tourism industry in harmony with its natural environment, cultural resources, and the values of its people.

Improve the quality of life of the Maldivian people by optimising and balancing the economic, environmental, and socio-cultural benefits of tourism, with equitable distribution of these benefits to the society by increasing the representation of Maldivians employed in the sector while minimizing the possible negative impacts of tourism and maintaining the position of Maldives in world Markets.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on the global economy, and the Maldives is no exception. But the tourism-dependent island nation may find the path to recovery a lot harder.
