Malaysian Immigration Department detained 530 undocumented foreign nationals, including 94 Bangladeshis, in the Selangor state on Saturday.
They were detained in drives at the Selangor Wholesale Market in Seri Kembangan early Saturday, Selangor Immigration Director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said in a statement. Of the detainees, 277 are citizens of Myanmar, 72 of India, 39 of Indonesia, 15 of Nepal, nine of Sri Lanka, six of Pakistan and one of Vietnam.
Selangor Immigration Director, who participated in the operation, said a total of 530 foreigners, including 504 men and 26 women, were held during the operation, which started at 3am and ended 6am.
Of the detainees, 277 individuals from Myanmar, 94 from Bangladesh, 72 from India, 39 from Indonesia, 15 from Nepal, nine from Sri Lanka, six from Pakistan and one from Vietnam, Kamaruddin mentioned.
He said that they would examine whether the detainees have valid documents to stay in the country.
However, Subang Jaya Mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said on information provided by the city council and locals, 10 illegal trading licenses were seized from the detained migrants.
General Operations Force (PGA), Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), Selangor National Registration Department (JPN) and Subang City Council, were also participant in the operation.
