Online application date for the recruitment of foreign workers in Malaysia has been announced. Applications will be open through the website in the plantation sector from January 28.
This was stated by Malaysian Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan. Applications in other sectors will be open from 15 February.
A notice signed by the Minister of Human Resources on January 15 said that the government had given special approval in September last year to bring in 32,000 foreign workers to reduce the labor shortage in the plantation sector in Malaysia.
The cabinet meeting on December 10 decided to recruit foreign workers in all sectors except tree planting. The sectors approved at the meeting were agriculture, manufacturing, mining and quarrying, and construction and domestic workers.
On January 10, addressing the employers, Saravanan said that those who want to hire foreign workers can submit applications based on their actual needs.
In order to expedite the application process of employers and to avoid fraudulence, the Minister of Human Resources has refused to transact any money through intermediaries or third parties.
The Minister of Human Resources also reminded the employers to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in hiring foreign workers.
It may be mentioned that Malaysia made an announcement to reopen its labor market for Bangladesh on December 10, 2021, after remaining suspended for three years.
Following the announcement, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Bangladesh and Malaysia on December 19 on the employment of Bangladeshi workers in the Southeast Asian country.
Recruitment of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia was suspended in September 2018 over allegations of malpractices in the recruitment process and high recruitment costs.
