Majestic link road opens today

Kuril-Purbachal Link Road to ease east-west connectivity

The much awaited ‘Kuril-Purbachal Link Road’, which is believed to be a huge advantage for the country’s road connectivity, is scheduled to be inaugurated today (Tuesday).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the link road connecting Sylhet and Chattogram with the capital. The road will also create another connectivity between the east and west through Narisighdi, Gazipur and Narayanganj. 

Once the road link is opened, there will be no traffic signals on the 12.5-km expressway.

According to the officials of the Rajdhani Unnyan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), construction work of the country’s widest and most beautiful road, which is popularly known as ‘300-Feet Road, has already been completed.  

According to the officials of the Rajdhani Unnyan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), the Tk 10,329.66 crore, ‘Kuril-Purbachal Link Road’ is one of the most spectacular and attractive expressways in South Asia.

The officials said that a 6.5-km stretch of the 12.5-km expressway, from the capital's Kuril area to the Balu River, has been constructed having 14 lanes. Of these 14 lanes, eight lanes will be a part of the main expressway, while the remaining six lanes will be used as service roads for the movement of local vehicles.

The 6-km stretch of the expressway from the Balu River to Kanchan Bridge has 12 lanes--six lanes forming the expressway and the rest of the six as service lanes. 

Besides, a 26 kilometre canal on both the sides of road from Nikunja to Dumni via Joarsahara, Barua amd Dumni area has been dug up in view of beautifying the road link. 

The ‘Kuril-Purbachal Link Road’ also include five at-grade intersections, 12 bridges, six underpasses, six foot-over bridges, 1,170 road lights, 13 more bridges on the canal, 36.8 kms of walkways, 12.12 kms of area walls, two sluice gates and 11 sub-stations.

Moreover, as part of beautification, 60,000 trees have been planted and eight canals have been recovered to improve the environment in in the areas.

Rajuk Chairman Anisur Rahman Miah said that all the works of the project is complete.

While speaking about construction of the bridges, RAJUK officials said, five at-grade intersections have been constructed so that vehicles in the adjacent areas can use the service lanes to allow vehicle to drive in the expressway at the same grade or elevation. A subway has also been added to the expressway under each intersection.

Besides, a four-kilometre drainage line for disposal of rainwater, two culverts and 12 water bus stands has been constructed in the project area.

Regarding the canal reclamation project, Rajuk Chairman Anisur Rahman Miah said, "Once there were three major canals - Dumni, Boalia, and AD-8 -that would drain the rainwater out of the Airport, Nikunja, Baridhara and surrounding areas."

The Rajuk chairman hopes that the canals would help solve the waterlogging problem in the Kuril, Baridhara, Nikunja and Airport areas during monsoon.

The Rajuk chairman also said that the area would also represent a tourist attraction site in Dhaka.
