Major General Abu Mohammad Sarwar Farid, who was the commandant of Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA), has been appointed the new director general of the National Security Intelligence (NSI).
The Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) confirmed the matter in a press release on Tuesday.
Besides, Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhazul Alam had been appointed as the Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), while Major General Khondakar Mohammad Shahidul Emran had been appointed as the Commandant of the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA), the release added.
Abu Mohammad Sarwar Farid is replacing NSI Chief Major General Md Hossein Al Morshed.
Major General Morshed was removed four months after taking charge of the NSI.
Major General Sarwar Farid was commissioned with 27 BMA Long Course on 20 December, 1992, in the Armoured Corps.
He served in three Armoured Regiments. He attended a number of professional courses at home and abroad.
Major General Farid served in the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) as a Military Observer, and as an Operational Staff Officer, at the Western Brigade Headquarters in the United Nations Mission in DR Congo (MONUC).
Major General Farid is married to Dr Sanzia Niger and blessed with two sons.
However, Major General Khandkar Md Shahidul Imran was the commandant of Bangladesh Infantry Regimental Centre (BIRC) in the Rajshahi Cantonment, while Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhajul Alam was previously the managing director of the Machine Tools Factory.
