Magisterial power of armed forces extended by 60 days

The government has extended the executive magisterial power of all commissioned officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force by an additional 60 days.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Saturday, commissioned officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, ranked Captain and above, are granted special executive magisterial power nationwide. 

Along with them, military officers working on deputation in the Coast Guard and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have also been given the same powers.

This authority, effective from the date of the notification, will remain valid for 60 days.

As per the document, the magistracy powers are granted under several sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, including sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133, and 142. Earlier, on September 17, magisterial power

 was initially given to Army officials to help maintain law and order. A few days later, from September 30, similar powers were extended to officers from the Navy and Air Force.
