A college student have allegedly impregnated a madrasa girl by giving her false promises of marriage in Manirampur upazila of Jashore.
The accused is identified as Sariful Islqm, son of Anwar Gazi of Pashchim Machna villege under Khanpur union of the upazila. He is an Honours student of Manirampur Govt College.
It is learned that the girl developed a love affair with Shariful two years ago over phone. At one point, Shariful Islam developed physical relationship with her giving the temptation of marriage and she became pregnant. Currently the college student is absconding.
The girl complained that Shariful refused to marry her when she told him about her pregnancy. If Shariful did not marry her she would not have a choice except committing suicide, she added.
After being informed of the matter, the parents of the girl approached Shariful and proposed marriage. But Shariful did not agree.
UP member Idris Ali said a arbitrary meeting was held on Friday morning at Shariful's house in the presence of the dignitaries of the area. But Shariful refused to marry the girl. As a result, parents of the girl have been advised to seek shelter under law.
He did not go to Shariful’s mother Jahanara Khatun and step brother Jamal Uddin said they could not take any action as Shariful refused to get married.
Monirampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam told that action would be taken in this regard soon after receiving written complaint.
