Bangladesh's famous theatre group, Loko Natyadal, marked its 43rd anniversary with a year-long celebration. Founded on July 6, 1981, the group has produced 32 different plays over the years.
To celebrate their milestone, Loko Natyadal hosted a special event at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy's National Theatre Hall.
They awarded the prestigious Loko Natyadal Award 2021-22 to six outstanding theatre personalities. Among them were the late Dr Inamul Haq and the late SM Mohsin, honored posthumously.
The ceremony featured Khalil Ahmed, from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, as the chief guest.
The event was graced by Manchasarathi Ataur Rahman and Loko Natyadal Director Liaquat Ali Lucky, who also chairs the Group Theatre Federation. Awards were received by family members of the late awardees.
During the ceremony, Khalil Ahmed stressed the importance of increased cultural funding, while Liaquat Ali Lucky highlighted how arts and culture contribute to Bangladesh's development goals.
Cultural performances were a highlight, including dances, songs from Loko Natyadal's plays, and a dance-drama based on Rabindranath Tagore's "Birpurush." Children's groups from Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy also performed.
Loko Natyadal is known for productions like "Konjus," adapted from Molière's "The Miser," and "Sonai Madhab," based on Mymensingh Geetika. They've performed over 2,000 times worldwide and have participated in international theatre festivals and humanitarian efforts.
The anniversary celebration showcased the group's rich history and contributions to theatre and cultural exchange globally.
