Healthcare facilities in Lohagara Upazila Health Complex is being hampered due to lack of adequate number of beds for the patients.
It is learnt, though the hospital contains 50-bed in the black and white, the actual number of beds at the hospital is only 31. The foods from the hospital are, however, supplied for 50 patients regularly.
It is learnt, the dilapidated 31-bed health complex building has been demolised recently and the patients are being admitted to beds of the new hospital building where the number of bed is only 19. As a result, getting no beds, patients are taking shelter on the floor of the hospital.
According to the health complex sources, the number of daily admitted patients at the hospital is 70 to 80 on an average while nearly 500 to 600 patients are treated at the outdoor of the complex daily.
It is futher learnt, poverty stricken people who rush to the health complex for treatment from faraway areas during the bitter cold, are getting shelter on the floor of the hospital. Due to a huge rush of patients at the health complex, it is now almost impossible to admit the patients separately in the male and in the female wards. As a result, all patients at the complex are also under serious health hazard.
According to the health complex sources, though the complex got an administrative approval from 31-beds to the 50-bed, the manpower and other facilities for the increased beds have not yet been allocated. As a result, the health complex authorities are finding it difficult to treat and admit more patients.
Bijli Rani Paik, Nursing Supervisor of the Health complex informed, they were working hard even after the manpower shortage and treating the patients.
Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun, Resident Medical Officer of the Health Complex informed, there is an excessive rush of patients at the hospital but they were trying to serve all the patients with utmost sincerity and devotion despite the shortage of manpower. He added, the patients would get further improved service if the number of beds and manpower at the hospital are increased.
Dr.Sharif Shahbur Rahman, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer informed, the process was underway to increase the number of beds and the manpower. He requested the government to increase the manpower and the number of beds of the hospital to ensure further improved health care services to the people of the locality.
