Logs stolen from Moheshpur health complex brought back

Ambulance driver Faruq served show cause notice

Tree logs stolen from Moheshpur health complex (UHC) in Jhenaidah were brought back at the previous place after a week. Ambulance driver Faruq Hossain along with three others had stolen away the logs on the previous Friday when the health complex was shut down following weekly holiday, said the locals. 

Upazila health and family planning officer (UHFPO) Dr. Mahmud Bin Hedayet was blamed for the misdeeds. To hide the responsibility of tree stealing, the said health department official had served show cause notice where he (driver) was advised to respond within three working days. 

Terming the tree loge stealing and show cause notice on any employee without investigation unethical, civil surgeon in Jhenaidah said the said UHFPO was warned several times to avoid any unethical activities and to stay in his official resident at the heath comcplex regular.

Locals said a number of costly trees were razed to ground by the Ampahn a few months back. They were stacked in the complex ground for future consideration. But Ambulance driver Faruq Hossain along with his associate Oliar Rahman and two others had taken away the logs outside the health complex on previous Friday. The matter was published in a number of newspapers. Then the UHFPO said he was not aware about the theft as he does not stay at his allocated marked residence in the health complex.

Later to conceal his involvement in the theft incident, the said official had served show cause notice on the driver and advised to respond within three working days. How the stolen tree logs had entered in to the health complex during the weekly holiday on next Friday, UHFPO said they were not stolen, just they were shifted from the previous place. 

Regarding show cause notice on the ambulance driver without any investigation, the said health department official said as the journalists had published a number of news items, he had served the notice. 

When asked about residing outside the allocated residence for him, the UHFPO said he had been staying outside the residence with the permission of his district civil surgeon.

When contacted civil surgeon in Jhenaidah Dr. Shuvra Rani Deb Nath said following some unethical activities like stealing of tree logs, residing outside the health complex, the UHFPO was advised to avoid unethical activities and stay at his official residence at the UHC. But he (UHFPO) has been ignoring the advice all along. She (civil surgeon) will have no alternative to inform the matter to the higher authorities against the said UHFGPO at Moheshpur.
