Lockdown relaxed in Jhenaidah

People careless about health rules, social distancing

The strict lockdown is hardly being maintained in Jhenaidah. The health rules and social distancing is being ignored in many ways in the district. A good number of shops and business establishment were seen opened partially where a large number of men and women were involved in purchasing goods. 

When this correspondent visited Pairachatter, Hamdah, Post office turning, KC College intersection market witnessed that a good number of people, especially, men were not using face masks. 

A portion of the doors of garments shops, shoe corners, mobile phone shops and some other shops remain open during the lockdown.

Although the public transports went off the roads, huge auto-rickshaw, mahindra (three-wheeler), passenger carrying pick up vans, battery driven van, rickshaw and rickshaw vans were moving on all the roads in the town as well as on the highways without any bar. 

Thursday was the weekly kitchen market day in the district town was over crowded and a good number of the people rushed there for selling or buying purposes did not use face masks and staying mixing bodies with others. The health guidelines were totally ignored there.

When contacted a number of sellers at Jhenaidah kitchen market said they were puzzled when they government was imposing lockdown for one after another following the corona virus infestation. 

But they do not have come outside the houses for their livelihood. It (lockdown) should be relaxed for a few hours in all sectors considering the survival of the common people, especially, low income people, they said.
