As the country’s startup ecosystem gains global recognition, certain malicious quarters have recently become active in attempts to tarnish the reputation of some of the country’s most successful ventures.
One such target is Shajgoj, a leading cosmetics and beauty e-commerce platform that has become a trusted name both locally and internationally.
Despite efforts to defame the company, Shajgoj continues to advance, backed by a strong foundation of trust from its customers.
The startup, founded in 2013, has grown to employ 800 people, including 500 women, and has formed partnerships with global beauty giants like L'Oreal and Revlon. Shajgoj’s commitment to providing authentic products and comprehensive beauty education has earned it a solid reputation, not just in Bangladesh but also on the international stage.
Recently, Shajgoj secured significant foreign investment, including over 17 crore BDT (US$ 2 million) from Sequoia Capital and additional funds from a Bangladeshi technology-focused venture capital firm. The company also received early-stage investments from Singapore-based Angel Investment Network, BRAC-Osiris Impact Ventures, and Ahan Investments Pvt.
Despite these achievements, unfounded propaganda is being spread against Shajgoj, threatening to undermine the progress of the country’s startup sector. Entrepreneurs and customers alike are urging vigilance against these baseless attacks, warning that such actions could damage the country's entrepreneurial image abroad and deter future investments.
Anjuman Ara Beli, a long-time customer of Shajgoj, praised the company for its authenticity and the valuable advice it offers through its platform. With over 600,000 page views per month, 1.8 million organic Facebook followers, and a vast repository of beauty articles and videos, Shajgoj continues to reshape the narrative around self-care and beauty in Bangladesh.
As the startup community rallies in support of Shajgoj, there is a collective call for unity and caution. Protecting the integrity of homegrown ventures like Shajgoj is crucial to ensuring the continued growth and success of the country’s vibrant startup ecosystem.
