As the days of 12th JatiyaSangsad polls are nearing, a huge lobbying and counter-lobbying have been nearing with concerned party leaders trying to bag nominations from their respective party.
Rajshahi-3 constituency is formed with the entire Pabaupazila and Mohanpur upazila. Most of the areas under Pabaupazila are under Rajshahi City Corporation and adjacent to Rajshahi City Corporation. With highways, industries, Rajshahi Shah Makhdum Airportand a number of private universities, Pabaupazila bears immense importance as a part of the Rajshahi-3 constituency. Mohanpurupazila is also famous for the production of betel leaf, paddy and potato. The upazila is regarded as the hub of agriculture under the constituency.
At least 12 aspirant candidates from both the ruling AL and opposition BNP are likely to participate in the election fray and all of them have already started to make contact with their respective party leaders as well as the voters of their constituency.
Recently, a survey was conducted on the Facebook page by an organisation in Rajshahi on the popularity and possible candidacies of the parties to contest the upcoming Parliamentary polls from the Rajshahi-3 constituency. The survey result shows that 77 percent of FB users favour former General Secretary of Rajshahi district AL AsaduzzamanAsad as the contestant from the party from Rajshahi-3 (Paba-Mohanpur) constituency.
During the last Parliamentary Elections, AsaduzzamanAsad had sought nomination from the party for the Rajshahi-3 seat, but the central AL leaders nominated AL leader Ayenddin as the contestant. By receiving 21 per cent of support, Ayen Uddin, incumbent MP and Joint Secretary of Rajshahi district AL is the second choice as a candidate to contest as MP in the Rajshahi-3 constituency.
By receiving two per cent support of the voters from the FB users, both the President of PabaUpazila AL and Upazila Chairman Yeasin Ali and former President of PabaUpazila Women AL MorjinaParvin remain as the third choice.
The same survey shows that 64 per cent of FB users want BNP central leader and former General Secretary of Rajshahi district BNP ShafiqulHaqueMilon as the first choice. ShafiqulHaqueMilon was also nominated as a candidate from BNP for the constituency during the last elections as well.
By bagging 21 percent of votes, former Joint Secretary of Rajshahi district BNP ShahinShaokat stands second while eight percent of voters want to see Nasir Hossain Asthir, son of former BNP MP and Minister late Kabir Hossain.
Asthir is now a member of the Convening Committee of district BNP. Both the BNP central leader ShahinShaukat and former General Secretary of district BNP Matiur Rahman Montu received five per cent of votes as contestants in the 12th Parliamentary elections.
Moreover, BNP leader Jahan Panna, former MP of the women's reserved seat, is also in the election fray. ShahbuddinBacchu, the lone candidate from the Jatiya Party is also likely to seek nomination for contesting from the Rajshahi-3 constituency.
