Bangladesh wicket-keeper batter Litton Das has been ruled out of the first match of the group stage of the Asia Cup against host Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu stated that the opener is still yet to recover from fever and confirmed his unavailability from the first match against Sri Lanka.
“Litton was supposed to leave today, but he could not as he is still not well. We are waiting on him. So that he can join the team soon. However, he will not be available for first match,” Nannu told Cricfrenzy.
BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Yunus said if Litton recovers after the medical test, he is expected to fly on Wednesday. He confirmed this to the media before leaving for Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
“If Litton recovers today, we will take him to Sri Lanka (Colombo) tomorrow. He is a reliable opener and an important member of our team,” said Yunus.
Bangladesh squad led by Shakib al Hasan left the country on Sunday.
The Tigers are drawn in Group B along with co-host Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in their opening game of the Asia Cup on August 31 at Pallekele.
