Liton Das and Mehedi Hasan Miraz achieved an unprecedented feat in Test cricket, becoming the only pair in history to form a partnership of over 150 runs for the seventh or lower wicket after the team had lost six wickets for fewer than 50 runs. This now gives Bangladesh a chance to clinch this Test match and the series.
However, fast bowler Hasan Mahmud struck twice to reduce Pakistan to 9/2 at the close of the third day's play of the second Test in Rawalpindi on Sunday, with the hosts leading by 21 runs.
The pacer induced an edge from Abdullah Shafique for a caught-behind before clipping the top of the stumps of night-watchman Khurram Shahzad with a superb delivery, making the new ball talk. This sets
up a fascinating fourth day in Rawalpindi, with Bangladesh leading the two-match series 1-0.
Liton Das's remarkable century ended at 138 runs, scored off 228 deliveries, featuring four sixes and 13 fours. The pair came together after Bangladesh were facing ignominy, having lost six wickets for just 26 runs inside 11 overs.
The duo first negotiated the new ball, seeing off the lethal spell of Khurram Manzur, who took four wickets in the morning session, and as time went on, they looked comfortable against the Pakistan attack.
Liton and Miraz completed their respective half-centuries in the second session and looked set to score centuries, before Miraz was dismissed for 48 with a return catch to Manzur, bringing an end to the historic stand. Liton continued and completed his century before being dismissed for 138, caught at long on off Salman Agha, with the Tigers 12 runs away from levelling Pakistan's first innings score of 274.
