Lightning strikes kill two in B’baria

Two people were killed due to lightning strike in Nabinagar and Ashuganj in Brahmanbaria on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Kalu Mia, 45, resident of Tarua village in Ashuganj and M Joni, 25, son of Mia Shah, resident of Paniswar village of Sarail Upazila.

Locals said Kalu Mia was killed as a lightning struck him in Tungipara area under Sharifpur union of Ashuganj in the afternoon while he was returning home from a cattle market. His nephew was injured in the incident. 

Ashuganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nahid Ahmed said the incident happened when they were returning home selling their cow in the cattle market in the area. The body was taken by the family members of the deceased.

On the other hand, Md Joni was struck by lightning and killed in Meghna River in Nabinagar Upazila. He was a labourer of a bulkhead boat. 

Nabinagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tanvir Farhad Shamim said Joni was taken to Zila Sadar Hospital after being unconscious due to lightning strike. The on-duty doctor of the hospital declared him dead on his arrival.
