Rickshaw, Battery Rickshaw-Van and Easy Bike Chalok has made five-point demand including the inclusion of battery rickshaws and easy bikes in the policy-making process of battery-powered vehicles.
The demands were made at a protest rally in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday.
Their other demands include taking necessary steps for modernization by eliminating structural defects; taking steps to reduce road risks by constructing side roads on major roads; putting an end to the extortion of various quarters by issuing licences for battery-powered vehicles and providing training to the drivers regarding the rules of roads.
Speakers at the rally said that there is no way to deny that rickshaws, battery rickshaws, easybikes are now an important sector across the country.
“There is an investment of about Tk 50 thousand crore in this sector. 42 sub-sectors have been created and two and a half crore people have become dependent on indirectly and indirectly.
On one hand, it is contributing to the economy, employment and development of domestic industry. Besides, battery-powered vehicles are very important as one of the means of transportation for the common people all over the country,” they said.
They also said that these vehicles do not pollute the environment, do not waste fuel and carry more passengers. If these vehicles are licensed through the formulation of a proper policy, it will be possible to maintain discipline on the roads and the country will get revenue.
Rickshaw, Battery Rickshaw-Van and Easy Bike Chalok Sangram Parishad convener Khalequzzaman Lipon and Member Secretary Engineer Imran Habib Rumon were present during this time, along with others.
At the end of the rally, they brought out a procession that passed through the National Press Club-Topkhana Road and ended at the Secretariat Link Road due to police obstruction.
At the end of the procession, a two-member team led by Member Secretary Imran Habib Rumon and Member Mehedi Hasan handed over the memorandum to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges at the Secretariat.
