Legendary poet Paglakanai’s grave getting new look

Over a hundred throng Jhenaidah everyday

The number of visitors and fans of legendary and illiterate nature poet Paglakanai is satisfactorily increasing in recent time when Jhenaidah Sadar upazila parishad had completed some works in the mazer area at Bebari village, about three kilometres south of Jhenaidah district town. 

Further, the smooth road communication from and to the district headquarters have attracting the visitors every day, said some locals and visitors at the mazer premises. 

Manirul Islam and Samina Yesmin, both students of neighboring Islamic University when contacted at the mazer premises of poet Paglakanai said they are visiting the place for the second time. 

The authorities had constructed 12 feet height gateat the entrance, metal road on the way to the modern 

mural, auditorium, walkway and gallery there. 

Further, the depth ditch was filled with earth that had expanded the area of walking in the area. 

Toufik Ali, a fan of poet Paglakanai said the open platform is used for drama, theatre, discussion, musical programmes and other relevant purposes. PaglakanaiSritySangrakkan Parishad, a platform to preserve the memory of Kanai, musical academy and public library has enriched the area for the visitor and enthusiastic people everyday, they said. 

Some Awlad Sheikh, 61, a grocer in profession at the entry point of the mazer claimed himself as the fifth-generation member of Paglakani. He said the latest renovation and construction work of the mazer had made the area potential as the number of visitors and fans of Kanai was increasing.  They rush here to witness the mural, grave and other contents at the mazer premises. A number of fans rush to hear the music of Paglakanai to show respect to the mature poet. At least 150 people from outside rush the mazer a day which was hardly 50 to 60, he Awlad said.

MazharulAhmedLoton, one of the Kanai’ fans in the locality when contacted said that huge crowd rushing the area to witness legendary poet Paglakanai's mazer. Now it is getting new look for visitors, fans to learn his lifestyle, his relation with mankind and Almighty creator and walk in honest truck as the humanbeing should do. 

Upazilanirbahi officer (UNO) at Jhenaidah Sadar Sadiya Jarin when contacted said they had renovated the mural of the poet from an old one, constructed walkway for all with the fund from her upazila last year. A boundary wall was also constructed for the protection of the mazer. Jhenaidah district council had supported constructing the high-rising lucrative gate. 

They intend to spread the spirit of legendary poet Paglakanai like two other poets Lalaon Shah and Panju Shah of Harishpur in Harainakundu of Jhenaidah, UNO said. 

As each and every people in Jhenaidah and other areas are not aware and informed about the nature poet Paglakanai, they observe the birth and death anniversary of the poet for days together. Eminent personalities, renowned vocal artistes attend there. Musical programme, discussion and other local traditional and recreational games are arranged to make the birthplace of Kanai popular among the people. People from the local area as well as other areas of the country, even a number of Kanai’s fans from neighboring India attend the programme, UNO said.

Upazila parishad chairman and PaglakanaiSritiSanrakkhanSangshad general secretary Abdur Rashid Advocate when contacted said, the club was established in 1983 when the mural was made with earth and bricks. The then circle officer (CO), development Ranajit Kumar Roy was the president, while local eminent personality Golam Sarwar Khan general secretary.Abdur Rashid has been serving as the general secretary for past 52 years, where the deputy commissioner (DC) in Jhenaidah bears the responsibility as the chairman as per the government law. The birth place of nature poet Paglakanai will be more popular and famous in near future, he expressed his hope.
