'Delhir Akhra’ is a beautiful place with full of Hizal trees in Katkhal Union of Mithamain Upazila of Kishoreganj. It is also one of the favorite destinations for visitors in the rainy season.

Apart from natural Hizal tree forest, there are many places for tourists to visit.

Moreover, there is a four-hundred years old  interesting story about this place. A saint came here to meditate long time ago and some monsters used to disturb him trying to break his meditation. One day, the saint became annoyed and transformed these monsters into hizal trees using a mantra of his teacher.

Another story is heard about the name of the place ‘Delhir Akhra’. One day, people of Delhi's Emperor Jahangir were travelling by boats along the river located near the saint’s place of meditation.

At the time, a boat carrying gold coins had sunk. Passengers of the boat  drove into the river to retrieve the gold coins. But they couldn’t do it. Later, at the request of the passengers of the boat, the saint made the gold coins float on the surface of the water like fish so that the people of the boat can gather the gold coins.

Emperor Jahangir was shocked to hear the incident. Later, he donated three hundred acres of land to the Saint and from then the place came to be known as ‘Delhir Akhra’.

The monsters which were turned into hizal trees by the saint are still standing.

Whether rainy day or sunny it is a sight to see. Once you reach the area after travelling through the forest of Hizal, you will see the memorial of that saint. Once in the arena, it will feel as if it is truly a wonderful place to meditate.

In the arena, there are rest home, theater, guest house, kitchen and temple. At present there are three priests, including Mahant Narayan Das, there. There are many people living over here and everyone is  vegetarian. There are also visitors staying at night.

There are two enclosed ponds there. If you wish, you can spend an afternoon sitting by the pond. There is also a structure built during the Mughal period. However, it is being destroyed due to lack of preservation. These two things attract tourists to the ‘Delhir Akhra’.
