National Film Award winning legendary composer and music director Ali Hossain passed way. The composer took his last breathe while being treated at a hospital in the United States on Wednesday morning at the age of 81.
Ali Hossain's father's house is in Kushtia. But he was born in his grandfather's house in Cumilla on March 23, 1940. Due to his father's job, he studied in Karachi, Pakistan. He once worked as an assistant teacher at Nazrul Academy there. His weakness for songs made him stay by his father Mohammad Yaqub side.
However, he also learnt music from a classical music teacher from the same organization who worked at Nazrul Academy name Pierre Khan. Thus gradually he involved with songs. In 1964 Ali Hossain came to his country and spent his time singing in various ways.
His first film, ‘Dak Babu,’ directed by Mostafiz, was released in 1966, he performed the song “Halud Bato Mehedi Bato” with singer Shahnaz Rahmatullah. Syed Abdul Hadi also sang for this film. It is known from Ali Hossain that Shahnaz Rahmatullah and Syed Abdul Hadi made their debut in song together with this film. Abdul Hadi's sang for “Chaturi Jaane Na Mor Badhua”.
Azim Sujata acted in the movie 'Dak Babu'. At that time it was very popular due to the songs, Ali Hossain did not have to look back as a music director. After that, Ali Hossain worked on various Bengali films in Dhaka and also directed music for Urdu films like 'Choto Saheb', 'Dag', 'Anari', 'Coolie' etc.
Ali Hossain used to sing most of the Bengali songs in the films made from Urdu to Bengali. At that time, Ali Hossain's written many popular songs including “Osru Diye Likha E Gaan Jeno Bhule Jeona”, “Arrey O Praney Raja Tumi Je Amar”, “A Aakaash ke Shakhi Rekhey”, “O Duti Noyoner Shopney”, “Ke Tumi Aeley Go Jibon e” spread all fame around at that time for conducting the perfect music of these songs.
He made the chance for Prabal Chowdhury and Uma Khan to get into music. He even made Ghazal King Mehedi Hasan sing a song of his own name “Dhako Joto Na Noyon O Duhate Badol O Megh Ghumte Debe Na”. After the release of the film, the song became very popular at that time.
Ali Hossain Ali Hossain's wife Saleha Khatun has directed about a hundred movies so far. The only son Asif Hossain lives in America.
