A madrasah girl was about to be married to her violator, who is a teacher of a qwami madrasah at Jaintapur upazila in Sylhet, although the rape allegation is not negotiable and marrying the victim with the accused is not a legal solution according the law.
The marriage ceremony was about to be held at the house of the local UP chairman. However, after the report was uploaded in the ‘Ajker Bangladesh Post’ on Sunday (June 13), the arrangement of ‘illegal marriage’ was cancelled.
On the other hand, the matter also came to the notice of Jaintiapur Model Police Station. As a result, after the report was published, the girl and her family were called to the police station and a case was registered on Monday (June 14).
Hafiz Moulvi Enayet Hossain Labib, the main accused in the rape case, was arrested within 24 hours of the complaint being lodged with the police station. Golak Chandra Basak, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jaintaapur Model Police Station, confirmed the matter to the Bangladesh Post. He said that a team of police arrested the prime accused of the rape case around 10 am on Tuesday (June 15) during a raid in Haripur area of the upazila.
The OC said efforts were also being made to arrest the Muhtamim (chief) of the madrasah Maulvi Syedur Rahman, who is known as accomplice of the prime accused . The OC further said that the victim girl has been sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for medical test.
There are allegations that the girl was regularly raped for two and a half years at the Kubbatul Islam Darul Huda Kamalpara Qaumi Madrasa in Vitrikhel West village of Charikata union of the upazila. The name of the madrasa teacher accused of rape is Hafiz Maulvi Enayet Hussain Labib (30). He is the son of Abdul Jalil of Bagerkhal village in Haripur area of Fatehpur union of the same upazila.
After the accused teacher and the Class Eight girl of a local madrasa confessed to their illicit physical relationship for a long time, it was decided to put them in the marriage peg through local arbitrator. Muhtamim and teacher of the madrasa fled after this decision was made. Meanwhile, Charikata UP Chairman Shah Alam Tofail locked the madrasa on the morning of June 13 with the help of villagers who were disturbed by such immoral activities going on inside the madrasa.
