Leaders of the left alliance demanded the permanent allocation of a land for Harijan community who have been living at the Miranzilla City Colony in capital’s Bangshal for 400 years.
‘Harijans actively participated in the liberation war in 1971 and 11 Harijans sacrificed their lives’, the leaders came up with the disclosure while the Left Democratic Alliance staged a protest rally in front of National Press Club against the eviction of Miranzilla Harijan Colony without providing rehabilitation on Friday.
CPB Acting President Comrade Shaheen Rahman, BSD (Marxist) Coordinator Comrade Masud Rana, Member of Secritarial Council of Revolutionary Communist League Comrade Nazrul Islam, Democratic Revolutionary Party leader Comrade Shahidul Islam Sabuj, Executive President of Socialist Party of Bangladesh Comrade Abdul Ali spoke on the rally with Central Coordinator of Left Democratic Alliance and General Secretary of BSD Central Committee Comrade Bazlur Rashid Firoz in the chair.
Harijan leader Patpuri James, National Liberation Council Hemant Sarkar also spoke expressing solidarity.
The leaders in the rally said that the Harijans did not occupy anyone's property. After bringing them from different places including Assam, they have been living in Miranzilla Harijan Colony in Bangshal for the last 400 years and serving the people to keep the city clean.
They have no place to go but this colony.
They are always victims of negligence and have to live their lives in inhuman conditions in a small 10 feet by 10 feet room with husband and wife, sons and daughters and sons and daughters-in-law piled together. This eviction campaign cannot be accepted without providing them with alternative accommodation.
The leaders urged all the residents of the Harijan Colony to be united against the eviction.
