Lawyers in different districts arranged rally and formed human chain on Tuesday demanding regular court proceedings in compliance with health rules.
In Rajshahi, members of Lawyers Association of Rajshahi formed a human chain demanding resumption of the regular court activities at Rajshahi Court premises, reports our Regional Correspondent.
Presided over by Advocate Mozammel Haque, President of RLA, the human chain was attended and addressed, among others, by Advocate Parvez Toufique Zahedi, General Secretary of RLA, Advocate Abdul Wahb James, Nasir Uddin, Sekander Ali, Shasmul Haque, Shahin Alam and Atiqur Rahman.
Speakers at the human chain said, it was not possible to resolve the problem of the people through the virtual court. Thorough this court only the bail petition can be moved.
They further said, no new case being filed, the number of crime in the country was on the rise and the law and order situation of the country was deteriorating.
Common people are being utterly frustrated and disappointed by not getting justice since the court remains closed. They mentioned that the lawyers did not get any government salary as a result, due to closure of the court since March-26, they were facing hardship with their family members. They demanded resumption of court activities fully as soon as possible.
In Gopalganj, human chain programmes were held in demand of reopening the actual court instead of virtual court and to provide certificates to trainee lawyers passing the MCQ exam by publishing gazette in Gopalganj on Tuesday, reports our Gopalganj Correspondent.
Members of Gopalganj Bar Association and trainee lawyers carried out these programs separately.
More than two hundred lawyers formed an hour-long human chain program in front of the local press club demanding the reopening of the actual court instead of a virtual court.
M Zulqadar Rahman, General Secretary of District Bar Association and MM Nasir Uddin spoke during the human chain.
At the time, the speakers said, even before Corona, lawyers had been running the court maintaining social distance. Moreover, lawyers and candidates are facing problems due to the virtual court.
Meanwhile, as the written test has been postponed for an uncertain period due to the corona epidemic. Hundreds of trainee lawyers who have passed the MCQ test formed the human chain demanding certificate through gazette, in front of the local press club at 10 am.
In Noakhali, District Judge’s Court lawyers have organised a human chain rally in Noakhali demanding regular court proceedings in compliance with health rules. The program was held on the road in front of Noakhali Press Club, reports Noakhali Correspondent.
Abdul Gofran Bhuiyan, General Secretary of District Bar Association, Gulzar Ahmed Jewel, General Secretary of Bangabandhu Awami Bar Association and many others including Golam Akbar spoke at the program which lasted for about half an hour. Other members of the District Bar Association were also present on the occasion.
Speakers said that despite the court being closed for several months, many judges, lawyers and law enforcement officials have died of deadly coronavirus. There are still more than two hundred infected. In other words, the infection could not be stopped even after the court was closed.
However, due to the closure of the courts, the complexity of court cases is increasing, the common people are not getting justice and the lawyers are also in financial crisis. In such a situation, they have demanded to conduct regular court proceedings.
After the human chain of the lawyers, the trainee lawyers organised a human chain at around 12 noon demanding the issuance of a certificate by publishing a gazette at the same place.
They said that according to the rules, the certificate examination is held every six months, but for the last three years, the certificate examination is not being conducted as per the rules. Now, due to corona, the certificate examination is closed for indefinite period of time.
Therefore, the trainee lawyers demanded the publication of a gazette listing those who passed the preliminary examination in 2017 and 2020 as lawyers.
