A mobile court in Barishal has sentenced a lawyer to seven days in jail on charge of assaulting a tag officer for selling TCB products. The lawyer is Advocate Rabiul Islam Ripon, a resident of Defulia area of Barishal city.
Subhad Majumder, a tag officer in charge of monitoring TCB's product sales activities and a sub-assistant engineer in LGRD's land office construction project, told reporters that a truck carrying TCB products sells at fair prices throughout the day.
After all the products were sold, some chickpeas remained. The chickpeas were sold in the Sona Mia Pool area of Nabgram Road in the city in consultation with TCB officials.
Subhad Majumder said, “Suddenly a person named Advocate Rabiul Islam Ripon came there and obstructed the sale of goods. At that time, when I tried to convince him, he assaulted me verbally and physically. He snatched my mobile phone and held me hostage. Later, when the matter was brought to the notice of the district administration, law enforcement officers led by an executive magistrate came and rescued me.”
Executive Magistrate Nazmul Huda said, “A TCB dealer was selling goods at a fair price in the Defulia area in a truck on Saturday (May 2) afternoon.
At that time, a person named Rabiul Islam Ripon made various allegations against TCB to go there and obstructed the sale of goods. Tag officer Subodh Majumder, who was present, informed the TCB officer on his mobile. The accused Ripon snatched his mobile phone and assaulted him.”
Upon receiving the news, the mobile court appeared there and sentenced Rabiul Islam Ripon to seven days imprisonment for obstructing government work and insulting a government official. After the sentence was announced, he was sent to jail.
Meanwhile, TCB officials said that last week Rafiqul Islam's brother tried to prevent the sale of goods at a fair price in the area by claiming to be the leader of the market committee.
