Law should be amended for death penalty for medicine adulteration

CAB chief says at seminar of Debate for Democracy

President of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Golam Rahman has said that there is no reason to show sympathy to those who are involved with medicine adulteration and marketing. Its logical to demand their death penalty. Law should be amended in this regard, he said.

He said these while speaking at a seminar organised by Debate for Democracy at head office of ATN Bangla in the capital on Saturday.

Former director general of Directorate of Drug Administration Major Gen Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman was present at the event as the chief guest with ATN Bangla Chairman Mahfuzur Rahman in the chair.  

Chairman of Debate for Democracy Hassan Ahmed Kiron presented the keynote paper while Lazz Pharma managing director Md Lutfur Rahman, ATN Bangla advisor Colonel (Rted) Motahar Hossain, senior vice president Tashik Ahmed were also present at the event, among others. Dr Tajul Islam Chowdhury, associate professor of Shee-Bangla Agriculture University, moderated the progrmame.  

Golam Rahman said that a group of unscrupulous traders are increasing the percentage of mortality by marketing bad medicine illegally. Due to fake and adulteration medicines people often die, he added.

He also said that not only medicine, there is hardly any food item which is not adulterated in the country. There is a terrible situation in the country with adulteration. Its high time to get ride from such situation.

Golam Rahman said, “Even we search halal and non-halal food, we are continuously doing illegal work, making adulteration food and marketing them. Religious leaders can come forward to minimize this illegal work.”

He said that the initiative should be further expanded by mentioning the initiative of Citing the government's model pharmacy a timely initiatives he said, the initiative should be further expanded.

Several other speakers of the seminar also spoke in favor of meting out capital punishment to medicine adulterators.

They branded the food and medicine adulterators as the biggest terrorists in society.
