Dr Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman, Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, emphasized on the simplification of language, saying that the more easily understood and presented the language would be, the more sustainable it would be. In order for the sustainable socio-economic development and prosperity of the country, the mother tongue as well as foreign languages should be easily understood and practiced by the concerned people including researchers. He was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar organized at the auditorium of Dhaka University Modern Language Institute on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor inaugurated a 'Multilingual Nameplate' with 22 languages on the premises of the Institute.

Poet Muhammad Noorul Huda, Director General of Bangla Academy and Prof. Dr. Hakim Arif, Director General of International Mother Tongue Institute participated in the discussion on the article. Associate Professor Rupa Chakraborty conducted the program.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman said that there are people of many languages and ethnic groups in the world. Learning a foreign language is very important for developing and connecting with people of different languages in the world. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the greatest Bengali nation of all time, long ago realized the importance of learning a foreign language out of respect for the mother tongue. Therefore, Bangabandhu in his education policy adopted a far-sighted plan for the teaching of foreign languages including the establishment of modern language institutes. The Vice-Chancellor called upon all to have the utmost respect for the mother tongue in learning foreign languages, cultures and traditions.
