Locals and police on Thursday morning recovered the bodies of two people out of three that went missing after a mountain slide caused by heavy rain on Wednesday (September 15) evening. The incident took place at Saingya Tripura Para in Ward 3 of Bandarban Sadar Union, 5 km away from Bandarban district town.

Jagadish Tripura, a resident of Sainga Para and UP member, said Krinchati Tripura, 43, wife of the deceased Diamba Tripura, her daughter Bajerung Tripura, 12, son Pradeep Tripura, 8, and Kranchati's younger sister Rankati Tripura were returning home after working on their zoom crop land on Wednesday evening.

At this time, when it started raining heavily and a flash flood started in Saingya Jhiri (waterfall), all of them got up on the water tank at the nearby Ghat to protect themselves from the flow of water. At that time, when the hill suddenly collapsed on top of the tank, all three of them, including the mother, were buried under the landslide.

Rankati fell from the tank and survived but was injured. The body could not be recovered on wednesday night due to heavy rain.

On Thursday morning, Bajerung Tripura (12) and Pradeep Tripura (8), two siblings’ bodies were recovered, 1 km away from the spot. However, their mother’s could not be recovered at the time. Police are continuing to search for the body. Upazila Chairman AKM Jahangir said the bodies of the siblings would be handed over to relatives through legal process according to the request of the locals.
