Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury visited the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital on Monday to see the injured by container depot explosion at Sitakunda in Chattogram.
The director of the institute, Professor Dr Abul Kalam briefed the land minister about the current condition of the injured patients. Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Land Pradeep Kumar Das was present.
The land minister spoke to journalists thereafter.
After praying for the forgiveness of the departed souls, Land Minister Saifuzzaman said many have lost loved ones. Closed ones of many others are undergoing treatment today. Our first goal at the moment is to ensure that the injured recover quickly. Every effort is being made in this regard.
The minister further said that many people including firefighters and army servicepersons who were present in the post-explosion fire control and rescue of the injured, have been working at the risk of their lives. Doctors and health workers are working sincerely to treat the injured. Volunteers are doing miscellaneous of relief works, including blood collection, to save lives. In this time of crisis, we have to work in this way regardless of political affiliation.
Responding to a question from a journo present at the time, the land minister said it would not be appropriate to comment on the cause of the accident until the inquiry committee reports on the cause of the accident. For now, our main goal is to make sure the injured people get well and assist them.
