Lalmatia Girls’ High School and College celebrated the success of their Plastic-Free Campus initiative with a grand graduation ceremony on Wednesday. This initiative was in collaboration with the Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), Department of Environment (DoE), and Mutual Trust Bank.
Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Director of Dhaka Metro, DoE, praised the students and teachers. “Today’s graduation marks a big step in our fight against plastic pollution. The dedication shown by the students and teachers is truly commendable,” he said.
Chowdhury Akhter Asif, Additional Managing Director of Mutual Trust Bank, highlighted the power of education and community action. “The students and teachers have shown how education can create lasting change. We are proud to support this initiative,” he stated.
Md. Kamruzzaman, Principal of Lalmatia Girls’ High School and College, expressed his pride. “The success of this initiative shows the power of teamwork. Our efforts have made our school cleaner and raised awareness about reducing plastic waste,” he said.
Dr. Shahriar Hossain, Secretary General of ESDO, emphasized the impact of collective effort. “With determination, we can make a significant impact on our environment. This is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to sustainability,” he remarked.
Siddika Sultana, Executive Director of ESDO, inspired the young leaders. “Your dedication to a plastic-free campus is inspiring. We hope your efforts will influence your communities and beyond, ensuring a healthier planet for future generations,” she said.
The ceremony celebrated the hard work of students and teachers in making their campus plastic-free and promoting environmental awareness.
