Hundreds of minor students of a government primary school in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila have been attending their classes on the ground under the open sky as the concerned contractor did not complete the construction work of two- storied building at a cost of Taka over 1.25 crore . Sometimes the school authorities declare the class shut if any probable rainfall or storm .
Upazila primary education officer in Jhenaidah Sadar had requested the district authority to cancel the license of said contractor and enlist his name in the blacklist at no delay when he failed to complete the work of Jargram Rautail government primary school in last fey years.
Guardians Nazmul Islam and some others when contacted at the school premises, said they were in trouble when their children were not showing interest in attending class as the teachers have been advising the minor learners to attend classes under the open sky in sun and rain. A good number of learners have also stopped going to school for want of academic environment.
A number of teachers serving in the school had expressed almost same opinion when the construction work was not completed even after repeated extension of working date time and again.
Jafirul Islam, head aster and Golam Mostafa, president of the school management committee of Jargram Rautail government primary school when contacted said the contractor had evicted the previous tin-shed house of the school about three years back. He started the construction work of two storied building at a cost of Taka 1.25 crore in October 2020.
But he cold not complete the work in scheduled time and extended the tenures for two times. He had urged upon the district primary education officer in Jhenaidah to cancel the license of the said contractor and enlist the name in blacklist, he demanded.
They said after a long vacation due to global havoc Covid-19 pandemic, they reopened the educational institutions a few days back when the tin-sheds were blown away by storm. A good number of minor students have been attending classes under the open sky and some tomes fall sick.
Asaduzzaman, contractor of Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP) of the local government engineering department (LGED), when contacted said it happened due to his financial constraints. He was hopeful to complete the work within a few months, Asaduzzaman said.
Upazila primary education officer (UPEO) in Jhenaidah Sadar Sudhangshu Kar when contacted said the sufferings of the both teachers and students of Jargram Rautail government primary school was not ended when the said contractor was delaying to do hurry. He (UPEO) had requested the district primary education office authority to cancel the license of said contractor and blacklist his name for further work, he said.
LGED Jhenaidah Sadar upazila engineer Ahsan Habib when contacted admitted the delay of the said contractor. He said they (LGED) is not in a position to meet the previous bills of the contractor which was one of the reasons behind the delay.
