Under the job creation program (MANGA) of Bandaber Union in Rowmari upazila of Kurigram district, many workers are living inhuman lives due to not receiving wages and getting extremely low wages. Although the Upazila Nirbahi Officer was informed about this, no effective action has been taken so far.
According to the relevant sources of Bandaber Union Parishad, a total of 460 workers worked for 40 days in the first phase under the Employment Program (MANGA) in Bandaber Union of the upazila in the financial year 2022. At the end of forty days of work, the workers were supposed to get Tk 16,000 each, but 346 workers got Tk 6,000 through development.
On the other hand, 132 workers working at the same time have not received any money till now.
The second phase of work under the same project has started a few days ago. Unpaid workers are starving for half a day.
Workers Hafiza Khatun, Ejeda, Joynal, Latif said, I have finished work for 40 days but I have not received any money. I am working without eating. I am working on it anew. The money should be given to me immediately.
Worker Minhaj Ali said, "I have worked for 40 days as per the rules and I have given the development number correctly." Even after that he did not get any money.
Mangal Labor Sardar Golam Hossain said, "I have 93 day laborers on my side, out of which 26 are not getting a single penny. They are in dire straits."
Kazim Uddin, a member of the local ward, said that the workers are in a lot of trouble as they are not getting their wages. I am urging the authorities to pay for their wages.
Bandaber UP chairman Bir Muktijoddha Alhaj Abdul Quader Sarkar said the workers work with great difficulty.
They are in trouble for not getting money. I am requesting the local administration to solve the problem of workers not getting money.
