Kushtia District Sports Association gets new body

The election of Kushtia District Sports Association 2020-2024 was completed with tight security and great enthusiasm on Saturday. Kushtia District Sports Development Council won the election with full pannel.

Voting for the four-year term was held at Kushtia District Sports Association’s pavilion from 8am to 4pm. Out of a total of 60 voters, 66 exercised their voting right through direct ballot. Former Bangladesh national cricket team captain Habibul Bashar Sumon was also a voter.

Kushtia District Sports Association has 31 executive council posts. According to the rules, Kushtia Deputy Commissioner is the President, Kushtia Superintendent of Police and Kushtia Additional Deputy Commissione are Vice Presidents and Kushtia District Sports Officer is a member of the committee. Therefore, elections were held for remaining 27 posts.

This year, 36 candidates contested in two panels against the 27 posts. Kushtia District Sports Development Council panel headed by Anup Kumar Nandi fielded candidates for all 27 posts. On the other hand, the panel headed by Md. Amjad Ali Khan competed for only 9 posts. 

Returning Officer, Kushtia Executive Magistrate Kaniz Fatema announced the results in the presence of District Sports Association President Md Aslam Hossain at 6 pm. Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Sirajul Islam acted as the Election Commissioner.
