A news item was published by a Bengali daily on Tuesday which highlighted the helplessness of folk artist Kangalini Sufia during coronavirus crisis.
The news came to the notice of Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Aslam Hossain. Kangalini was immediately informed by a magistrate and brought to the deputy commissioner's office. Later, at 4.30 pm, he handed over 10,000 taka in cash to Sufia.
Kushtia Deputy Nezarat Collector (NDC) Muhammad Mushabberul Islam said that food items were given to the talented artist on several occasions after coronavirus spread. Seeing the news of the daily, the deputy commissioner again gave her Tk 10,000 in cash. She will also be given food items in the future.
Kangalini Sufia was born in 1971. She caught the eye of people at the age of 14 by singing in village ceremonies. Once included as a regular artist of Bangladesh Television. Her singing gurus were Gouro Mahonto and Deben Khyapa. \
She also learned music from Halim Bayati. So far, the artist has received 30 national and 10 international awards. She is currently living in a house allotted for government accommodation at Ershadnagar in the Jail Junction area of Kushtia city.
