Krishna Rani Sarkar, a prominent member of the Bangladesh women's national football team, has found herself in hot water after expressing frustration on social media regarding an ongoing injury.
Sarkar's Facebook post, detailing her one-and-a-half-year struggle with an ailment and perceived indifference from the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) towards her treatment, has drawn the ire of the federation's senior officials.
Mahfuza Akhter Kiran, Chair of the BFF's women's wing, confirmed that Sarkar would be issued a "show cause notice" to explain her social media comments. Kiran refuted Sarkar's claims of neglect, stating that the federation had, in fact, advised her to seek treatment in India, albeit without a guaranteed financial commitment.
Sarkar's injury has sidelined her since the 2022 SAFF Championship, preventing her from participating in two subsequent tournaments. While receiving treatment from the BFF's physiotherapist, she reportedly sought further medical advice from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) doctor Debashish Chowdhury, who recommended treatment in Australia or India.
Kiran acknowledged the BCB doctor's recommendation but cited the BFF's limitations in facilitating treatment in Australia. She further stated that the federation's General Secretary had offered to cover Sarkar's treatment costs in India, pending a breakdown of expenses.
Despite her contractual obligations, the BFF views Sarkar's social media comments as a breach of conduct and plans to take disciplinary action. Kiran emphasized that contracted players cannot publicly criticize the federation.
