Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Krishak League (BCL) on Tuesday helped Sujon Molla, a Gopanganj farmer, in cutting paddy.
Around 60 activists of the ruling party's wing joined hands with the farmer from Malenga village in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila to cut the ripen paddy. Central Krishak League Senior Vice President, Sharif Ashraf Ali led the group in reaping the paddy.
District Krishak League Joint-General Secretary Abu Lais Mollah, Vice-President Shamchul Alam, Ulpur UP Chairman Kamrul Hasan Babul, Sadar Upazila Krishak League Organising Secretary Masum Ali Khan, Municipal Krishak League convener Refaul Islam and other leaders and workers of the district and Upazila Krishak League were also present.
“Lockdown across the country has led to a labour crisis for harvesting crop. But Krishak League came forward and harvested paddy, from self-motivation”, farmer Sujon said expressing gratitude to the Krishak League.
Abdur Rahman Biswas, general secretary of the district Krishak League, said, they came forward to help the helpless and poor farmers as per the directives of the central unit. "We will continue this task. We have instructed all our units across the country to help farmers as they are suffering from labour shortages”, he added.
He further said that they will cut the paddy and will take the harvest to the farmers' home. Besides, in Jalalabad union of Gopalganj Sadar upazila, a 20-member team led by Chairman Suparul Alam and his union members helped poor farmers harvest paddy. Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sadiqur Rahman Khan inaugurated the programme.
