Kosovo wants to buy readymade clothes from Bangladesh as the Southeast European country finds huge potential to boost trade ties between the countries.
“Hopefully from next year this (RMG export) is going to happen,” Chairman of Stylish Garments Ltd Salauddin Chowdhury, also a director of DBC News, told Bangladesh Post as he is currently visiting Kosovo along with wife Maksuda Chowdhury Misha, Managing Director of Stylish Garments Limited.
During the visit, they called on President of Kosovo Dr. Vjosa Osmani. They also met with the Mayor of the capital Pristina and many business leaders, among others, when they discussed the business opportunities between the countries.
“The President talked about the good relations with Bangladesh. During our meeting with the business leaders and the Mayor they showed keen interest to establish good business ties. In particular they are eager to buy our ready-made clothes,” Salauddin Chowdhury said.
Kosovo unilaterally declared its independence from Serbia on 17 February 2008, and has since gained diplomatic recognition as a sovereign state by 101 member states of the United Nations. Bangladesh has established its diplomatic relation with Kosovo in 2018.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Kosovo Kreshnik Ahmeti recently visited Bangladesh and found huge potential to boost trade relations by improving mutual ties. Both countries signed visa waiver agreements for government officials and diplomats.
Business leaders say Kosovo could be a good destination for Bangladeshi IT professionals, engineers and skilled workforce while the country can import garment and pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh.
“Now potential market for us as both countries are developing fast and we have a diplomatic relationship,” Salauddin Chowdhury said. “They want to buy RMG products from Bangladesh as it’s cheaper. They are now buying it from Turkey.”
The business couple also attended the World Congress for People with Disabilities presided over by Goodwill Ambassador of Kosovo Elvana Shala.
Ministers, MPs, diplomats, and foreign dignitaries were present at the programme where they discussed various topics about the rights of the people with disabilities all over the world.
