KOICA & ICE Center to implement $7.5 m project for young entrepreneurs

A project titled  “Capacity Building of Universities in Bangladesh to Promote Youth Entrepreneurship (PYE)"  was launched on Saturday.

The KOICA and ICE Center, under the University of Dhaka will implement the worth $5.7 m project with objectives to improve the environment for potential youth entrepreneurs through the capacity building of the universities in Bangladesh on entrepreneurship education.

The launching ceremony took place at the Dhaka University Central Playground, the venue where we are celebrating 100 years centenary of our beloved university. 

MA Mannan Minister, Ministry of Planning attended the event as the Chief Guest while Lee Jang-keun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Dhaka, Bangladesh attended as the guest of honor with Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor and Chairman, ICE Center, University of Dhaka in the chair.

The event was also attended by delegates from South Korea, representatives from the Government, Industry, Development Sector, Academics and Students from the universities. 

The Government-to-Government modality project under the Ministry of Education will be implemented by the University Grants Commission and University of Dhaka in partnership with the Korea Cooperation International Agency (KOICA), universities in Bangladesh and other important stakeholders.

The main activities under the project include developing curriculum for entrepreneurship education,  capacity development of the faculties, interdisciplinary students and professionals, strengthening the network and relationship among stakeholders of the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Bangladesh, supporting the physical and virtual infrastructure for entrepreneurship education, and developing a pilot entrepreneurial roadmap for universities in Bangladesh through research and advocacy.

Speakers hoped that the small collaborative initiative towards an Innovation Driven Entrepreneurial Bangladesh will play an important role in the country’s development journey.
