Indian star batsman Virat Kohli is set to miss India's practice match against Bangladesh ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. According to reports, Kohli wasn't part of the first group of players who travelled to the States for the upcoming ICC tournament.

The initial contingent of players departed for the US on Saturday. India skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour, and a number of other players were on the flight from Mumbai.

The Indian Express reports that Kohli extended his break after Royal Challengers Bangalore's IPL 2024 exit. A BCCI official confirmed that Kohli had informed the Board beforehand about his delayed arrival. The 35-year-old is expected to jet off to New York on 30th May. "Kohli had pre-empted us well in advance that he would be joining the team later, and for that reason, the BCCI has scheduled his visa appointment for a later date. He is expected to fly out to New York in the early hours of 30th May. The BCCI has agreed to his request," a BCCI official told the newspaper. India and Bangladesh are due to play a warm-up match in New York on 1st June, a day before the tournament itself gets underway. Bangladesh's first T20 World Cup match is against Sri Lanka on 8th June, while India kick off their campaign against Ireland on 5th June.
